2 Mother's Day Brick Stitch Bead Patterns (2018)

Here are 2 simple brick stitch beading patterns that would work well for Mother's Day or a new mom gift or perhaps little party favors for a baby shower. Can you think of other ways to use these stork and baby patterns?

As with most of my designs, I stitched my beadwork using Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads. Though I use 4lb Fireline, because I do a modified method of brick stitch that involves multiple passes of the thread through the beads, for the standard method,  I would recommend 6lb Crystal Fireline.

I really like the first pattern of the Stork with the baby. I think the black outline on the stork created the cartoon-like effect that I was looking for. The white outline on the little baby sling emphasized the sling while giving it a softer look. I played with a darker outline on the sling but the finished piece looked confusing. I gave the bird long legs; without the legs, it resembled a seagull. I took longer than expected to complete this impromptu "just for fun" Mother's Day design.

I originally started with just the baby in the sling but struggled with finding a stable and durable pink bead color. If you have any pink recommendations, please let me know! I had planned to discard this baby pattern but succumbed to the urge of beading it up using a transparent red color instead of pink. I think baby looks cuter on paper but I still like the finished piece. If you change the bead colors, I think you'll probably get an entirely new look so have fun!
