Happy Thanksgiving!

The Day Before Thanksgiving

It's the day before Thanksgiving. I woke up and made myself toast. I left my bread in the toaster oven too long, as I often do, and scorched it to a crisp.

Oh well...I shared it with the cardinal and he seemed very happy.

I went outside to feed the dog. He always smiles at me in the morning. He's an old doggie with a cataract in his right eye. I think he has kind, beautiful eyes but he's a bit self conscious about his appearance.

Peeking over the fence was a pretty orchid. Our neighbor likes to share her beautiful flowers with us.

I'm not very good with plants but at least I know I didn't cause the holes in the leaves of the Passion Fruit vine. I've finally found the culprit - a teeny, weeny caterpillar, a Gulf Fritillary.

Tomorrow my family will have a small gathering at grandma's home. Unfortunately, I'm under the weather and think it would be wise for me to stay home and keep the germs to myself. I'll watch a good movie and wait for my husband to bring home my portion of the Thanksgiving feast on a paper plate. He'll probably give me an extra helping of dessert too!

Hope you had a wonderful day. Enjoy the holiday!

Beaded Rose Instructions

I received instructions to make this pretty beaded rose pattern from the Handmade Jewelry Club. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have enough of the red faceted beads. For now, I'll Pin it to my Bead Weaving board and hopefully I will be able to make it soon.

In Between Beading

Sometimes I get away from my beads...yes, really...and take a walk outside.

The sky is dark and hazy. The rain is not here yet so it's quite warm and humid.

The Gulf Fritillary chrysalis is maturing on the wires of an unused bird cage. Love that purple cage. No birds have ever been housed in this cage but the kids hope to own a little feathered pet one day - maybe the cute, plump, tailless quail they saw in the pet store. Adorable little things but I don't think so. We are impatiently waiting for the Passion Butterfly to emerge.

Something is chomping on the leaves of the Passion Fruit vine but I haven't found any new caterpillars.

I'm hoping the hungry Anole lizards are not feasting on the caterpillars. They seem to eat anything! I've spotted them with butterflies, roaches and earthworms dangling from their jaws. They can have all the roaches they desire but I'd like them to leave the butterflies and earthworms alone.

Do you see the lizard?

I hope you're enjoying your week. It's a busy time of year so I thank you for taking the to time to visit my blog. Have a beautiful day!

Dear Bead Crumbs, Do You...?

The most frequently asked question I get is...

Do you do custom work?

My answer usually goes like this...

Yes, I do bead custom work based on images or drawings (as long the images are not copyrighted). I will also re-create charms that I have made & sold in the past. If I'm designing a pattern from scratch, it may take me up to a week to get the pattern just right.  The beading process takes about 1 - 2 days for each piece.  I will contact you when the item is listed. You are not obligated to pre-pay or purchase the custom piece. Any unclaimed custom piece generally becomes available for sale in my shop.

...and then, after questions are answered and a design is agreed upon, I'll give you a quote, a start date and an estimated completion date.  (Christmas is a busy time for custom work so right now, I unable to start new custom projects until Dec. 1st.)

I recently completed this Christmas collection...

and now I'm tweaking this little bird and fox.

I'm very happy to be here to help you with your gift giving needs. I only wish I had more hands!

My Muse

I've finally found a use for the stuffed animals that are taking over our home. When I need a bit of inspiration, I think I'll pick through the plushie pile and select a critter to be my model. It actually took me 4 tries to get this beaded beagle just right. My 3 failed pieces are hanging on my children's backpacks & bags - where all rejects go. Yes, they have quite a collection.

What do you think?
