Sweet Taste of Summer

Thank you to those who caught my post yesterday and sent me kind and encouraging words :) Today is going to be a better day. There are so many things that I am grateful and thankful for.

Yesterday afternoon my mother-in-law shared some sweet mangoes with our family. Growing up we had a large mango and lychee tree in our yard that often provided us with tasty snacks as well a great place to play. I remember spending hours in the lychee tree where my siblings and I claimed our own personal space, rigged pulleys and climbed like monkeys. Today we don't have a large yard now but we have one happy orange tree that is kind enough to produce delicious fruit despite my poor gardening skills.

Through my children's eyes, mango is what grows along the road in those big trees and lychee is the expensive and juicy fruit sold at the expensive pop-up stand down the street - "Fresh Cold Lychee!", the sign shouts. Because of the strong, sweet smell of ripe mango, my kids don't particularly care for it but they will go for lychee and watermelon on any day.

I am very pleased to be included in the colorful treasury that got me to indulge in the fun memories from my childhood. My watermelon charm is featured in this collection.

I'm a Big Kid Now

Yesterday was the last day of summer break for my kids. During those long hot days, I reverted back into a big kid. Mostly I forgot my daily routine and nearly gave up cleaning and organizing. I realized my juvenile transformation when we went out for our final family summer adventure on Monday. We chose to hike up to Manoa Falls

It was a hot day and sunny day in our neighborhood so we were surprised to be greeted with massive mud puddles on the trail but then, Manoa is always wet. My little one daintily tried to avoid the puddles (impossible!) but my older one and I found ways to make the biggest "squish!" Dainty makes you slip, squishies will get your feet sucked into the mud for firm footing, I reasoned. My husband got splatted a couple times and gave us scoldings but by the end of the hike he was making crazy jungle bird noises like an unruly child. Now that was embarrassing!

After our adventure we headed out to the school for orientation. Yep, I was a muddy mess and did not bring a change of clothing. I managed to look presentable by wiping myself down with napkins from the restroom and I hid my dirty bottom by finding a seat really quickly. At the meeting I was reminded of the forms that were due...last week.

I spent most of my evening filling out paperwork and sending out apologetic emails for my tardiness. I'm so sad summer break with the kids has to end. Today, I will grow up and be responsible again.

"How about homeschool, mom?" my older child suggested. Ha! I'm not that responsible!

I hope you're enjoying your summery days and making memories (even those silly ones that you may want to forget one day). Thank you so very much for your visit and comments. Would you like to share what you have been up to?

The Joys of Owning a Cat

It's been one of those woeful cat weeks!

I put a bowl of soup on the counter to cool while I go to the fridge to get a drink and when I return, the cat has it's whiskers in my bowl. I turn the water on in the sink to wash the dishes and kitty comes up for a refreshing drink from the faucet. I can't find my spool of thread but the cat has and is sewing a dress. According to the cat, 6:00 AM is a good time to scratch the bedroom door, meow and start the day. The cat enjoys watching TV too but she likes to sit directly in front of the screen blocking my view. Clean laundry makes a good bed because everyone looks better in cat fur. Our cat's favorite toy is the dog's nose. She says, "Everyone needs to throw up hairballs once in awhile. And poop...I make it, you clean it!"

Cats...it's just one of those funny relationships. Here's Simon's Cat. He has the same issues as I do.

Seed Bead Mummy Charm and Pattern

oh my goodness...I forgot how fun it is to make new bead weaving designs and patterns. Constantly distracted with summer activities and my craft space a despicable mess, I have been avoiding my favorite past time and instead opted to embellish the current beaded pieces I had.

Yesterday while the kids read their new library books (went to 3 libraries to get those books!), I brought my supplies to the dining room table and stitched up my newest charm - a brick stitch halloween mummy (found here https://www.etsy.com/listing/158523218/mummy-seed-bead-pattern-brick-stitch?ref=shop_home_active).

I'm about to run out of the house again with the kiddos but I have a Big Bad Wolf pattern waiting for me when I get home. I'm so excited to get started.

Do you have a hobby or past-time that makes you go a little bit crazy and delightfully happy?
