...Before My Addiction...

Before my beading addiction, I did other crafty things.    I really enjoyed making Friendship Chips because my kids and their friends loved it so.

WHAT ARE FRIENDSHIP CHIPS? Friendship Chips are really fun to collect, trade, share and wear. Friendship chips are made from two decorated 1.25" chip boards and lightly varnished for protection. Both sides of the chips are accented with different images from decorated paper, stickers or book and magazine pages. No two chips are the same.

Sigh...my Friendship Chip days are over for now.

Simple Peyote Stitch Pattern for a Cat Paw Print

Here is a simple two color bead woven pattern for a cute cat paw print.  It's a great for any "Wildcat" sports fan or kitty lover.  Change the colors to customize your look.

  • This Peyote stitch pattern has 18 columns (.95 in.) and 13 rows (.93 in.).
  • The pattern calls for Miyuki size 11 seed beads in white AB (DB-052) and silver lined green (DB-148) but you can make the paw print in any color that you want and use seed beads of your choice.
  • The number of beads used - 73 white and 103 green.
Here is my finished product.  I used size 11 Toho seed beads in white and silver lined green, added a loop at the top and attached it to a cell phone strap.

To learn about beadweaving stitches, Chris Franchetti Michaels at About.com can provide you with great tips and tutorials.

Please feel free to use this free bead pattern to make your own cat paw print*.  Contact me through my Etsy shop if you'd like to place a custom order for a finished product.  I  can make this into a pendant, earring, bookmark charm or cell phone charm.

*Notice: For commercial use or any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work.  The best way to do this with with a link to this web page.

What Is This Cute Fruit?

It's growing on a vine on our tangerine tree.  The kids said they were growing a Lilikoi plant.  It doesn't look like a Lilikoi to me.

It's a cute fruit but what is it?

A List of Do-Gooders on Etsy

These Etsy sellers are in the giving spirit and selling their beautiful hard work for $0.20 (the cost of listing an item) and shipping.  For their good deed, all they ask it that you "Pay It Forward" or pass on an act of kindness to someone else and that's exactly what we need for a special holiday season.

*Blue Felt Dog Eyeglasses Cell Phone Case by lillah
A printed dog and bones all over of this double layer felt case, which will keep your eyeglasses or sunglass or even your i-pod snug and scratch-free.

*Journal Swirl Flower Notebook Set of 4 by Red Curry Designs
Great for travel notes, party or wedding favors, promotional giveaways, jotting down notes, gifts, purses, cars, ect.

*Seed Bombs by handycrap
You take a seed bomb and toss it somewhere earthy (preferably somewhere that could use a little life added to it). As weather and nature work their magic, the clay on the seed bomb will wear down and mix with soil, allowing the seeds to get a chance to grow.

*White Pearl Earrings by pleasurearts
Lovely glass pearls earrings in white, very pretty and dainty.

*Seal Pup Earrings by Handmade + Cute (that's me)
Adorably cute Seal Pup beaded earrings that are lightweight and great for everyday use.  Handwoven with tiny size 11 Japanese seed beads.

Let's Have Some Gingerbread

If I could live in a Gingerbread House, I would...as long as someone will be there to patch up the holes in my candy walls.  I'm sure there would be a lot of repair work to be done each day.

Here is my Gingerbread House cell phone charm constructed with seed beads.

It's a brick stitch beadwoven design made with Toho beads in opaque colors of terra cotta, white, dandelion, lustered mint green and sprinkles of candy colors.

You can find it here on Handmade + Cute, Etsy

Zebra Bookmark

How do your bookmark your pages?  No, I'm not talking about clicking your "favorites" tab on your computer.  I'm talking about good, old fashioned books.

Let's see...I use gum wrappers, merchandise tags, scrap pieces of paper and business cards are good too.  I hate to dog-ear my book page, but yes, I admit to doing that also.

Because I love to read, I decided that bookmarkers would be a good thing to make and hopefully others will find a use for them also.  So...here is my first listing for a better way to enable readers to keep their place in a book when "go to last page read" is not available or a click of a computer key won't do it.

This is a beadwoven, seed bead zebra.  Made with Toho seed beads in size 11.  These are two pieces that dangle from a silver plated shephard's hook bookmark.  Great for paperback books.

Available on Handmade + Cute, Etsy.
